Orchid Quest Feb 4-5
This is the big one folks! Yes, it is time for that event we have all
been waiting for…Orchid Quest 2006!!!! But, we still need your
help. This, of course, is the last monthly meeting before the big one.
We have a few loose ends to tie up, mostly getting more slots filled
for OQ, handing out free passes (new this year), learning about how to
get your plants ready for the show, meeting new members, etc. If you
can’t make it to the meeting, give Meg McLaughlin a call to find
out where she needs help on the show schedule. There is so much to do
and so many opportunities to learn. Being around Orchid Quest is like
seeing the world without having to travel! Best of all, you get to meet
great people, bond with other members and have fun. This is a huge undertaking
by our group, so the more, the merrier!
Orchid Quest Sign up Sheet
We still need volunteers for :
Plant Registration on Friday 9-6
Setting up the display for the show – Friday Afternoon
Clerking on Saturday morning (7-10 AM)
Ticket Sales on Saturday Afternoon and Sunday all day
Guild table and selling Raffle Tickets
Take Down-Sunday 5 PM till done
View the full sign up sheet including the jobs you have already signed
up for.
Looking for a volunteers to hang up and take down "The Banner" on
Park Street
Everyone who works at Orchid Quest is asked to keep an eye out for people
who are so overwhelmed by the displays that they actually reach out and
touch plants or go beyond and even move the ropes to get a better look
or picture. Please discourage this kind of understandable behavior in
a pleasant manner! Even though we’ve all secretly had the urge!
We Need Your Plants
We want to put on a great show, so bring us your blooming
plants by 12:00 on Friday, Feb 3!
Labels
You may bring a list of your plants to the January meeting and give it
to Sandy Delamater (608-835-8118 sldjn@aol.com)
or email your list between January 23rd – 28th.
Please give her enough time to make the labels. Also feel free to recycle
previous labels if you already have them from OGG. If you do this, be
sure you tell Sandy what plant(s) you’re bringing and which you
need labels for, so she can fill out the forms and make the needed labels.
Plants
If you plan on bringing plants, they must be at the Exhibition Hall at
the Alliant Energy Center by 12:00 on Friday, Feb 3. Please refer to
your instructions on getting them ready for a show or come to the January
meeting for an
overview given by Sandy Delamater.
Radio and TV Coverage Of Orchid Quest 2006
Wayne King will be doing a call-in radio program for National
Public Radio WHA (970 AM & 90.9 FM) on Friday January 27th at 11:00-12:30.
Just try to stump him with your questions!!
Phyllis Williams of K & W Greenery, who is our Corporate Sponsor
for Orchid Quest 2006, will be doing a live radio broadcast of her regular
show on Saturday morning from 8-10 AM.
Linda Barcz does a “Garden” talk on WISC Channel 3 on Monday,
January 30th at 12:00. We expect that she will be talking up our show,
so turn it on!
New this Year for Members in Good Standing
We want to encourage people to come to Orchid Quest, right? And we
know that you know people who are sort of interested and you know that
if
they came and saw, that they would be amazed and in awe and want to
try growing an orchid too, right? So we are offering members who come
to the January meeting, 2 free admission coupons that can be given
to friends, relatives, acquaintances that you think would enjoy the
show. We want you to give the ticket to someone who may bring other
people along (if nothing else but to split the parking fee!) or who
wouldn’t go otherwise, but would surely go again once they have
seen it with their own eyes. Please sign the back of the coupon so
we know who they come from.

Thank you to Svetlana Kot for all of the orchid photos that she sent
in for the December newsletter. Her orchids look beautiful, and she has
a nice variety. Is she the only one that has orchids in bloom? Please
send in photos of your orchids or articles to be included in the newsletter.
