Annual Christmas Party
Don't forget the Christmas Party on Sunday, December 18th at Olbrich
Gardens. Same times, 1:00 PM Judging and 1:30 Meeting.
The party is a
potluck, so bring your favorite goodies. Plates, utensils and beverages
will be
provided, but you
should bring your own serving utensils. The Grower of the Year awards will be
given out at this meeting, so be sure to
be there. The cost is $8.00 if you wish to take a blooming plant home for the
holidays.
We will also have the sign up sheet for working at Orchid Quest, so bring your
Day Planner or PDA!
Blackhawk Show Correction
Our apologies to Nancy Acker-Skolaski and Stan Skolaski
of Orchids by the Acke'’s for not including their name on the awards
list at the Blackhawk Show in our November newsletter. The plants were
exceptional.
Orchid Quest Update Admission fee will be the same this year, let’s hope
the weather cooperates! We will have flyers for everyone to post at their
local library,
garden center, grocery store, school, bank or pharmacy bulletin boards,
wherever you can think of. It is important that everyone take some flyers
and make the extra effort in posting them where you think people will
see them. Increasing publicity has the benefit of reaching more people
and hopefully results in better attendance at the show. Flyers will be
available at the Christmas party.
This year we are trying to encourage all members to convince a friend
or two to come to Orchid Quest. With that in mind, everyone attending
the January Meeting will be given two "free" passes to be
given out to friends or relatives. Hopefully they will each bring a friend,
and that many more people are bitten by the orchid bug!
Member Exhibit
Those of you wishing to have your own personal display of orchid related
items or orchids should contact Judy Stevenson or Elaine Malter by December
31st.
Sign up to work for the Show
If you can't make the Christmas party to sign up or you forget
when and what you signed up for, we will have a hyperlink set up so you
can check the schedule.
Library Reminder
Winter is here, not much to do. It is
a great time to pick up a book and read! Don’t have any good books?
Don’t forget to check
out the library at Olbrich or just go to the website for the list. Our
guild librarian, Liz Wood will also bring books, etc. to the Sunday meeting.
November
Meeting
Many thanks go out to Chuck Acker for his wonderful talk
on his trip to Peru to see Phragmidpedium kovachii. It was very
informative, the
slides were great and Chuck is a great speaker. Thanks also to Stan and
Nancy for hosting the meeting and for our new project –the nobile
dendrobium, Dendrobium
Comet King.
Photos of your Orchids
Thank you to Svetlana Kot for all of the orchid photos that she sent
in for the December newsletter. Her orchids look beautiful, and she has
a nice variety. Is she the only one that has orchids in bloom? Please
send in photos of your orchids or articles to be included in the newsletter.
Thanks, Brook.
